Hi all,

I am frien from Egypt and as mad about Civilization 2 as all of you
smile.gif

I started playing civilizatiion games since Civ 1.

I am really addicted to CIV 2 and I have achieved miracles with it

178% score (Diety) being the wise of the Egyptians was my best score to date for me .

My best goverment is Communism ( no pain with unhappy people , good economy , u can alter ur science output by changing ur citizens to scientists and communism will be = democracy) .

Always save game b4 u enter a village , always make alliance or 2 and this will protect u , avoid combat as possible especially at the start of the game , as roads are not well developed , city walla make u suffer to enter the city , diplomats are poor than spy .

I know veteran players all can do this and better than what I did , but AI in this game is GREAT and this what makes it the greatest game for me together with Championship Manager .

Building influencial wonders is the key too , I used to have about 10 cities and about 6 of them build wonders , I must have pyramids , Greatwall , Great library , Statue of liberity ( to switch to communism

) , adam smith trading company , Michael anglo chapel , hoover dam , seti program , apollo program etc . those wonders are very important , If i lost any of them , i restart the game

I hope to share knowledge with u and we have have fun with this mighty game ....I can't get enough of it.

When I switched to Alpha Centauri , I couldn't play

I felt very confused and everything was unfamiliar for me . u design weapons , u make projects , u research some odd futuristic techs . I certainly didn't like the change .

anyway ,

Welcome. This is a good place if you like civ.

You got it right about A/C.What a dud! They promise the world and deliver a slum.
I have the same concerns about Civ 3.

It is just as addictive,if not more, than anything I have been exposed to.Course not much happens up here in the monastry

save before entering a hut?....tsk tsk

Only in OCC

Welcome to the holy place of the civilization fanatics. Learn, observe, play, speak and soon we'll have that 178% approval rating up into the 1000%+ range.

OH and: If it hadn't been for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college.

Welcome zozzo,

I just saw this thread that pre-dates our other discussions about the Pyramids in other places, so I'll say hello and comment about your wonders list

Building influencial wonders is the key too , I used to have about 10 cities and about 6 of them build wonders , I must have pyramids , Greatwall , Great library , Statue of liberity ( to switch to communism ) , adam smith trading company , Michael anglo chapel , hoover dam , seti program , apollo program etc . those wonders are very important , If i lost any of them , i restart the game

Pyramids - Best Early Wonder
Greatwall - Usually unnecessary
Great Library - Nice to have, not needed in most situations though... you should be far ahead enough in research that the GL will give you very few advances, and diplomats and/or Marco Polo can snag any gaps you have.
Adam Smith - nice to have
Michelangelos Chapel - Most valuable wonder in the game
Hoover Dam - Hands down, Most Valuable late game wonder
SETI - Worthless, unless you're going for 255 Future Techs. That's because all you need is 8 ot 10 beakers (2 or 3 scientists) to gain one advance per turn at this point in the game. Science = 0%, Taxes = 70%, Lux = 30% (growing democracy). Freight will provide the 2,500 to 4,000 beakers for the research to an advance... so SETI is wasted effort (unless you are going to push for 2 advances per turn, then get it... otherwise wait till you will push for 2 or 3 or 4 advances per turn).
Apollo - Someone's gotta do it to build a spaceship... if its close, let the AI build it. If you're waaaay ahead in tech (and you will normally be), then yup... gotta divert those freight (12 freight is 2 to 4 advances) and build it.

You left out the 2nd most valuable wonder in the game, JS Bach! No city improvement can duplicate its effect, either... and it's excellent for war-mongering democrats (and republicans!).

When Colossus makes your list, with Copernicus and Isaac Newton... you'll be landing Spaceships in the 1800's and wonder why you ever needed the Great Library (but the GL is still nice, if you have the excess caravans/shield capacity for it).

Remember, communism will not GROW like democracy... and (to coopt a quote), "We democrats will bury you!" Once your cities have maxed, communism can't control them at 0% luxuries, either. You'll be a war-mongering democrat before long, LOL
