Ground Transports

Hi,

an idea I had for Civ was the introduction of ground-based transport units. These would most likely be weak units that could move with the speed of, say, a Tank and most likely would come with the Replaceable Parts or Motorized Transport advances (around infantry). Its annoying in Civ that there are no halftrack / truck type units that can move ground-based units around quickly. This would lead to better blitz-style attacks. It is kinda unrealistic to have infantry forced to move one square / turn in the modern ages with no resistance in enemy territory. Why not have a transport unit (like the covered trucks in WWII) that can transport these units around ground quicker?

any thoughts?

You can implement this into the game using the editor. :)

Of course, it'd be a lot better if it were an official design element.

There is a truck unit over in the customization forum, there may be an APC as well, have not checked in a while.

Save these files into a "truck" or "apc" directory in the units subdirectory. go into the editor and add the unit "truck" or apc". YOU MUST CALL THE UNIT EXACTLY WHAT YOU NAMED THE SUBDIRECTORY. and it the stats you want and selected it so that all units can build it and viola... it should be in the game. (If I missed something, let me know, I have not added a unit in a while.)

If you get stuck adding it, ask the folks over in the C&C forum. I belive that they have a manual on what to do.

Good luck.

You CAN add ground transports already, but the AI never uses them.
If they would fix the AI, it'd be great already :)
