No need. If the save is corrupted, you wouldn't be able to open it; since you can, it's not a problem with the save.
If he can't open any saves, including his own SP saves, and every time he validates his files Steam reports two bad files, re-downloads those files and then still says two bad files when he revalidates, he needs to do a complete uninstall (including manually deleting any vestiges, including any stray ini files, left over cache files, etc.) and then reinstall the game.

Start with the Steam uninstaller (right click the game in the Steam Library and select Delete Local Content), and when that is done, check SteamApps/Common for any left-over files and clean out any remaining My Games items. That should do it.
Steam should remove registry entries.
