Guides to editing maps

Are there any guides or resources for editing an existing map that I've downloaded from the steam workshop?

Trying to make a new map and get civs placed and set up is such a huge hassle despite there being quite a few detailed guides on the subject, I thoughts perhaps this would be a much easier route to quickly have a custom map to play!
