Half attack theory

Ahh, overkill!

There's no such thing as...

where do I get me one of them thar things?

another thing worth mention. somebody pointed out high probability of culture flips if you dont turn it off. even if you turn it off, declare war #1, take 5 cities, sue for peace. 20 turns later when you pick a fight with them again, those 5 cities will immediately revolt. could mess up your plans if you anticipated those 5 cities building your slow moving defensive units / artillery for the front lines. on larger maps its really difficult to knock em out in one shot, especially if you are republic or demo and WW gets out of hand.

The corruption can be so crippling that it doesn't pay sometimes to capture everything unless you are going for domination.

Machiavellian play can be a lot of fun too. Some call it a variant, and it probably is, but its basic principle is to grow big enough to stand up to the biggest AI, but create a system of dependence among the defeated AI so they can use their captials are core cities of your own. Once they fall behind, they will pay very good prices for your techs and resources.

Having a machiavellian play strat also doesn't imply small empires, as having a near monopoly of luxuries/resources relative to your clients is essential to making the most money out of them.

I take you like Machiavelli.;)

I was interested by his work. I started putting together the strategem in 2003 right before C3C came out and picked the name because a human player who plays this strategy is essentially pulling the AIs strings in a coherent way :)

Machiavelli's The Prince still is a very useful book for planning strategy as a politician or leader. As for a strategy of taking another continent, I normally make sure that I have a big edge in culture to avoid culture flips back. Plus, I have gotten creative with the Wonders and there ability to put buildings into cities. None of my games are ever going to make the Hall of Fame. I have modded things too much.
