I have recently taken a mini break from Civ 4, having just completed my 20th (I think?) game on a huge map at Epic speed and Warlord difficulty. After plenty of games where I had failed to beat my best score, this time I nailed it and then some! This is why I thought it was a good time to take a break and bask in the glory of my best ever score. And to get some sleep!:crazyeye:

What I wasn't counting on was the total failure of my security software to prevent a whole series of malware getting onto my PC. I eventually had to install a new hard drive and reload Windows etc. This allowed me to run anti-malware software to remove the little critters from my other disk. Unfortunately, this disk was stuck in Reinstalling Windows mode, which crashed whilst trying to Install Devices each time. This forced the change to the new drive.

This means that I have now just reinstalled Civ 4 and patched up to 1.74. I am not sure that this was available before and I may only have been using 1.61(?) or whatever. Anyway, I had to do something similar once before whilst enjoying Civ 2 and can remember locating the High Score Table on the old disk and copying it into the new location. Having just gotten such a blinding score, I am now hoping to reload my Hall Of Fame from the old directory into the new one, but I don't have a clue where to find it this time. I have browsed in the "E:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4" folder of the old disk and in the My Games subfolder in the My Documents folder, but can't see anything labelled Hall Of Fame or score etc.

I really don't want to lose this data, but I have already deleted my previous save games, or I could have at least replayed the final turn of my high-scoring game and recorded that. I have been tempted to get a techie guy out to the PC to try to fix it and restore my original disk as I have also lost a load of stored emails in Outlook Express, but currently being on the employment scrapheap means that money is tight, and the PC is running better than it was with less crap slowing it down.

Can anyone offer any help as to the location of the file/s I need to copy onto the new disk?

Thanks,
Eddie

Each score is pulled from its replay file from ...\My Documents\...\Replays\ (which is not the install directory).

So, if you just want to carry your highest score with you, you only need that one Civ4Replay file.

(Note that scores from mods only show up when that mod is currently loaded. Patch version number might matter, but I don't think so.)

Sorry for late reply, but I was just now searching for scores info and came across your post.

Hey McCrea,

Thanks for the one and only reply. Much appreciated. Sadly, I am still having problems. I located the directory on the old drive and the only file inside E:\Documents and Settings\Eddie\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Replays, was named Minimap.DDS, a 129kb file shown as modified on 12/04/2006. I am certain it hasn't been THAT long since I last played Civ 4. Anyway, I copied this file into the current directory, having first realised that it didn't yet exist, so I started the game, exited and then found the directory. I restarted the game, went to view the Hall Of Fame, and it was still empty.

I guess that I am stuffed? Unless you or anyone else can think of anything that I am still doing wrong, I suppose I will just have to start from scratch, or wait for Civ 5 to come out. I just hope that when it does, they realise that people may have issues that force a reinstall and give us the option to import a previous high score table easily. This is, after all, our "reward" for completing the game and gives us something to aim for when starting yet another new game (usually later the same day after finishing the last one at 5am!) I really should get out more!!!:crazyeye:

Sorry to hear that I still didn't help. To be specific, I don't know precisely what the minimap.dds file is; it's not a replay and my intention was to ignore it. [Seems to be one and only one in any replay directory.] The replay files for 'vanilla' have the extension .Civ4Replay -- so if they weren't there, Furiey's suggestion is champ. Search for *.Civ4Replay on the whole old hard drive.

I, too, only play BTS, but my vanilla test case was:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Replays\Administrator_BC-4000_0.Civ4Replay

I just want to make sure that you didn't used to play Warlords or BTS, because then the score would have been in a different subdirectory and have a different extension:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Replays\Ramesses II_AD-0940 Turn 185_11.CivBeyondSwordReplay

Reminds me of George trying not to lose his Frogger high score :trophy:

Well, for years I had suspected as much, but now it is finally officially confirmed:

I'M AN IDIOT!

Having had to reinstall windows, I overlooked the fact that I had previously made 3 different accounts; one for me, one for my wife (wherever she is these days), and one for... GAMES. What a plonker!

When I looked for the replay files, I looked in my own account location and completely ignored the Games account staring me in the face. For some reason, I had chosen to play my games from this account as there was less rubbish running in the background, which I thought would help.

So, having just read the latest replies, I took Furiey's advice and did a search of my E drive and suddenly 20 results popped up in the Games account. I could have kicked myself. Files copied, Hall Of Fame restored!!!! Now all I have to do is beat it.

Cheers guys.:goodjob:

(Of course, this means that you are now responsible for me not getting any sleep again, as I start another game at 11:30pm):p
