I need to hear your opinion on map 1) earth map with flood starting at south pole that would be changed in to normal land
2) map would be made out of 3 continents - human - cobinet - flood
3) map would be made of 3 smaller continents and many small islands representing planets making it more naval (space)
4) Halo stile map (circle land surounded by ocean)
5) better idea
please vote for what suits you more
 
I suggest a less common map. (variation of #4)

Halo has distinct areas which are difficult to get to from 1 place to another... you have some freedom of movement, but in general it is fairly linear.

Make the map to match.

The Humans start on the left most side. They can not travel west only east. (at least to start the game).

The flood starts in the middle, but are land locked and can not come out.

For example:

This allows humans on the left covenant on the right, flood in the middle.

Initially, they can not meet. Quick grow and the humans and covenant can loop around and fight each other... or if they dare, they can try and fight through the flood controlled region.

The flood workers are initially flagged as wheeled and so can not enter the mountains and so the flood can not escape for a while.

The humans and the covenant can initially not meet each other directly. They can loop around the flood, or they can fight through it.
They can eventually build bases on the other side of the mountains and there by build roads to cross over. This can be used in the late game strategy.
No units can have airlift. No units can have relocation. No railroads. This makes the game about moving moderately from your base to your foe.... more like halo.

another interesting variation to consider... locked alliances.
Humans Red, Blue and Green
Flood. Pink, Purple, grey
Covenant: Yellow, Orange, white

where you compete both against the the foe(s), but also against the other squads. And you might be a brilliant Sargeant in blue squad, and then red team goes and accidentically releases the flood. In the meantime you also have to worry about your buddy Green Team hogging all the land and resources you need. Additionally with more 8smaller) tribes, it makes the enemy less unified (more like playing levels) but also more resilient... harder to completely destroy.
 
that was the 3 continents idea. I thought of making flood surouned by ocean so it cant travel away until it gets certain tech(or other ship comes near and it gets enslaved)
all flood units would had enslave ability.
Good idea with the team for humans it could be marines, army civil defence every faction would have its stronger units (example marines would have stronger ships + 2 attack and army would have + 2 def in infantry)
I gess we could ad some small islands as uninhabited planets (or ocupied by barbarians- random monsters from fantasy section)
 
Hmm in my map, it is not continents but continent. The reason is the AI will not use fleets correctly. And, the flood having a navy seems wrong.... while a flood horde finally breaking out of containment and overrunning the planet seems to fit better.
 
I have no idea how to contain them on land only thing on my mind is having a wal made of barbarians.
True AI doesnt use navy very well tho the ships could look like flying wrecks of human and cobinet (mostly transports with large capacity)

I gess if they would be on land there could be large desert then jungle and mointains and capitol would be called wreckidge of or crash site
 
in that case I gess it shouldnt be on earth it could be on ring stile land or fictional planet where bouth sides are fighting over control and then flood obviosly shows up
