This came from an idea expressed on the disband settlers thread. How about an option to halt production? You won't get any new shields added, but you won't lose the ones you've accumulated. This would solve the built settler before size 2 problem. I sometimes have small cities early in the game that I've built all the improvements I can or want, and don't want to build more units cause they take support. It would be nice to just halt production until I've researched something I really want to build. What do you think?

Definitely. I often have cities in which I've built all the available Improvements, with no Wonders available at the moment, and no wish to stockpile an enormous army. In the later stages, Capitalization takes care of the problem (and fills your coffers to boot), but a simple "Halt Production" feature would be nice.

What's the problem just take the unit to the nearest city that needs a production boost and disband the unit there?

Good point, but one which I often overlook, and which necessitates moving yet another unit about. If the game had a functional GO TO command, this would be a better option. and of course, you haven't saved the production in that city, you've only saved half of it.

Yeah, but you only get half the sheilds for it.

I can't do it for fear that I will

But if you halt production then you are losing all your shields. At least by producing units and dibanding them you are managing to salvage half. Another tactic I sometimes use is to keep seling and re-building the least important city improvement.

Getting to this stage is usually a bad sign however.

Why don't do this:

1. Build a cityimprovment or a Wonder.
2. When it's buildt don't change.
3. Waith, and don't change thing to produce.
4. waith some more and when something you wan't to have comes avalible then you change to that.

By doing this you will store upp production.

Halting production? And your poor civs are working their tiny butts of for nothing?!? I wouldn't like this option as I always build something to keep my loyal hardworking citizens busy. If I've got nothing to produce I have them make caravans or freights, so that those can help building wonders later on.
