I'm sure anyone with [ptw] or [c3c] will be aware of Hannibal saying something to the tune of "Fight the system, Bob. {leader's name} There is nothing to gain by maintaining the status quo".

Does anybody know what the caper is with that? I'm pretty unfamiliar with Carthaginian government (seeing how most of their history and ...civilisation... was ...sort of...er... destroyed) - Hannibal did manage to be elected 20 times to their Highest office during the wars with Rome. It just doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Was he some sort of anarchist or proto-socialist/communist/Zapatista, etc?

Hiram of Phoenicia is a friggen pinko as well.

I'm a little rusty on my ancient history but I'm pretty sure on this:

Carthage was an oligarchy, similar to Rome's republic. The wealthiest and most aristocratic families would elect one or two "sufets" to head the state. Those wealthy families formed a supreme council, like the senate in Rome. Although it is not known whether the sufet was elected by the council or by an assembly of the people.
