hardware performance impact on game

Hello,

I am currently using a 2 year old dual core laptop with about 1GB Vram and 4GB ram and Civ V does feel a bit clunky.

I do like the game (although it could probably be a little better) but when I am trying to cross a chain of mountain with an army of say 7 units on a large map which I have half uncovered ... the games feels incredibly annoying due to the slowness of moving one unit, switching to the other, etc... end turn, repeat and the little lag the hits me at every single action.

At the beginning I was despising 1upt for how terrible it was logistically to cross certain areas of the map but then I came to think after watching some videos online that it was probably just my ol' laptop not being able to cope with it, and that I would be able to return to the smoothness of civ IV if I were just to upgrade.

Luckily, I am planning to fix this this summer with a new computer (not a laptop this time) which should make my whole game experience much more interesting.

Now, not being a hardware specialist or anything, I am wondering what is more key to support a game like Civ V ? I tend to think that processor would be key due to the ammount of data and calculation the game is doing but I find that switching the video parameters of the game does has an impact on overall performance.

Any idea on what I should focus for my new toy ?
