Harvesting forest

Something strange I noticed. When I automate my workers (which is often, except for a few). They always seem to bee-line for the forests and chop them down! I have engineering, so they could replant if they wanted to, but they never do. What is strange is that I tried setting the governors to maximize sheild production, but the workers mess this up.

I suppose, it's realistic in that populated areas tend to be cleared for farmland (in the old tymie days), but it's frustrating. Anything I can do besides control these guys myself?:(

In my experience, automating workers turns them into bumbling fools. They run all over the map like they're on fire and don't seem to be able to get anything done.

At times I just let them do this when I have a whole continent transformed the way I want it, but I've also noticed that at times they do something I don't like - like when they decide to mine a grassland square that has irrigation.

When I'm feeling like a bit of micromanagement, I WILL control the workers and keep several planting and chopping forests myself. In this way, I choose the specific squares and cities that are involved.

By the way, I do NOT think that a city gets the 10 shield bonus if it is building a wonder. Keep that in mind if planting and harvesting is something you like to do.

I agree with Kev. Never automate workers, they will do the absolute stupidest things like go to an irrigation square, turn it into a mine, then re-irrigate the mine.

I HATE micromanaging 20+ workers each turn but the old saying is very true. "If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself."

If you automate a worker by using SHIFT-A, as opposed to 'A', he won't undo any previous improvements. It improves them from incompetent to bumbling.
