Have XL size shirts become the standard?

For those of you who don't know, S = Small, M = Medium, L = Large, XL = Extra Large.

Just the other day I went to Wal-Mart to pick up prescription medicine for my dad and happened to browse the T-shirt section looking for anything on sale. (Some may laugh at the notion at buying clothes from Wal-Mart. Well guess what, no matter where you buy your clothes they’re all made by 10-year-old children in a sweatshop factories located in SE Asia) I managed to find some nice shirts but unfortunately it seemed they only came in mostly XL and rarely L. Size M is ideal for me but I couldn't find any and I continued to notice this phenomenon as I passed through the clothing department, XL was standard. I only found one shirt in my size and that's when it hit me the majority of people who buy Wal-Mart stores are rather overweight. I looked around and saw a rather young but very overweight teen riding a mobile grocery cart. How sad to be overweight at that age...

But is it me or is Wal-Mart catering to overweight individuals now that they are becoming the majority in North America?

Oh yeah... I see tons of XL (and even XXL) shirts... sucks that I wear a medium (which I can never find a good shirt in).

The fat people are taking over :gripe:

Should I start a thread asking if XL shirts are the work of the devil?

Naw, it'll turn anti-bush in about 10 minutes after being started. :crazyeye:

I usually have the other problem; there's alot of M and S everywhere, but few L or XL (I need L for t-shirts and XL for anything with full sleeves).

Tangentially, it's become nigh impossible to find 30/36 jeans around here.

I suppose this means that the fatsos are only taking over below the waist here around ... :crazyeye:

are you drunk, Hitro?
If only, if only...

And it is indeed rather hard to find XL or even XXL shirts here. Normal shirts that is, not that hip-hop skater whatever crap.

I wear XL shirts, but not because I'm fat. I prefer loose fitting clothes, and my shoulders/chest are too broad for regular large.

I think sizes have shrunk, though. Same with shoe sizes. Maybe there is a different standard for clothes sizes where they are made?

I like either a medium tall or large shirt. I don't like wearing clothes that are really loose.

All the medium sizes were sold out, that's all they had left and so they put them on sale to get rid of them.

If all the t-shirts in the world are too big for you, you can still wear them. If all of them are too small, you can't. Hence, it's better to err on the side of too large.

What sucks if if you are in-between two sizes, like I am; I'm too large for a medium and too medium for a large. I have to go with either too tight or too loose.

I have a few XLs that I use as sleeping clothes, though.

Just the other day I went to Wal-Mart

Well there's your explanation.

I can't wear smaller than large, though I am about 6'3".
Really? I can wear Mediums (although I wish they were a bit longer, they're not too tight, though) and Larges at about 6'1".

@Riesstiu: Maybe it's the fat people, or maybe they just ran out of regular shirt sizes because their prices are so ridiculously low!

Well, I have broad shoulders and I have about two inches on you. Larges just seem to work out better, 's all.

My tanline is for large sleeves, anyways. I tried to wear a medium the other day... I didn't realize how bad my farmer's tan was.

Its the standard for me but thats more of a personal problem.

The XL isnt only for the fat, its also for the tall. Im 6'2 and often even an XL t-shirt (especially Cheap ones) will hang above my waist after a wash or 2.

Walk up to a sales rack at a major department store or Gap, Old Nacy, American Eagle, etc... Always lots of M & S, never any XL.
