Having crashes trying to load saves, help please

So I have the newest patch downloaded, but I've also downloaded the Thal's Balance Mod and City State Diplomacy mods. I can start a game just fine, play for a while, etc, but any time I try to load a save game from these mods, the game crashes. Every time. I'm wondering if I'm not setting something up correctly? I start a new game from the "mods" menu, but when I go to load the game I go to the normal single player menu. Both mods show as enabled in the Mods screen. I understand this is the "general" board, but I was afraid my ? would get lost somewhere in the mods sub forums. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
