having trouble

Today while playin meh first warlord game ( i know im a newbie) I was building structures in meh city and a screen popped up saying the city couldnt support the barracks when I had +2 gold coming into meh treasury. Can somebody help me PLEZ!

Sorry but I've never seen anything akin to this in civ 3.

In civ 2 I have, but when you say plus two gold per turn coming in .. don't know. The fact that you know it was plus two per turn suggests civ 3. Any more information?

The only other thing I know is in the city the citizens were producing no gold, just food and shields

Even the square the city is built on has money. In civ 2 this would go to what ever military unit was built in the city, but then the military unit would be disbanded, I think. Haven't played civ 2 since August.
