Hey guys I am new to the forum here. I have been playing civilization since the first one and have played every installation including the fifth one. which I believe is the best one yet, I love the graphics and the whole world is beautiful. I have been lurking on this website for a few months trying to up my game in civ 5, because right now I am playing on the third difficulty, and I am winning my games but I feel like I don't have a very good grasp on the mechanics of the game. so I am just now watching the lets play and reading up on the articles in the war-room discussion forum thingy.

Anyways my question is concerning the expansion packs and mods. Right now I am only playing as the vanilla version of the game, what should be the next mods or expansion should I get. I believe there are two expansion packs brave new world and gods and kings?

So any help you guys could give me that point me in the right direction to take would be appreciated. Ohh and this site is awesome there is so much knowledge it is ridiculous so kudos to those that made it and keep it running, and to the all the players that contribute knowledge to the site.

Get both expansion packs, I'm sure you won't regret it. There's also some seperate civ, wonder and map DLCs.

Yeah wait till Steam has a big ol sale (possibly for Halloween?) and nab all that stuff. Gods and Kings and BNW are both well worth the investment. I also own every other DLC not included in those and I will say you want to make sure you first of all buy the Gold edition of Civ V or if you bought absolutely plain vanilla buy the upgrade to gold thats available on steam for like 10 dollars. Then make sure to Double Check the DLC list because some of the stuff you can buy individually is a way better deal in the packs and you dont wanna end up paying for something twice. Also i love the polynesia DLC would recommend it if you love water maps. Vikings are so-so but they come together in a pack with explorers maps i believe.

So I just looked at steam and what I am seeing is that I should buy the gold upgrade for civilization V which will give me gods and kings and a whole bunch of other DLC (I guess that's what it is) map packs and scenarios. If I get that then I would still have to get brave new world correct? thanks for the quick replies

The Gold Upgrades gives you GnK and all the DLCs prior to BNW. So if you have only enough moolah for either the gold upgrade or BNW, get the gold one. That said, BNW is an exceptional upgrade but the Gold Pack is more value for money.

Yea to answer your question. You will still need to get BNW separately. Wait for a sale. It is coming soon
