Help! Can't start GOTM22

This is my first time trying to play a Game of the Month. I downloaded the complete GOTM21 patch, then the add-on for GOTM 22. Then I downloaded the PTW version of the game save file.

When I try to load the save file, it gets to 38%, then I get an error message:

Error Reading File
Missing entry in "text\PediaIcons.txt": ANIMNAME_PRTO_FOG

The game will now exit

I tried using the pediaicons.txt file fix for Cultural win, but that just gave me different error.

Can anyone help?

That error message would suggest a problem with the installation. Either the installation didn't work right, or was pointed to the wrong folder. Both problems should be taken care of if you do the installations again, and make sure that both installs are pointed to the 'Civilization III' folder. (the folder with Civilization3.exe in it)

I too have problems.

I emailed my problem to the GOTM staff over a week ago, but hasn't got any answer to my mail. I don't think I'll ever get any, so I will try posting here

Hi I want to try the GOTM22, but have some problems.
I tried to followed the instructions but PTW crashed wihle loading the game... "Technical problems" message.. send/don't send to microsoft

So here's what I did afterwards.

Uninstalled all - deleting all files

1) Install Civ3
2) Install PTW
3) Install PTW patch 1.21f
4) Load a normal savegame - it works
5) installing gotm21_ptw_full_setup.exe
6) Loads gotm21_open_ptw_start.sav - CRASHES!!
7 Load a normal savegame - it works.

The reason I try the GOTM21 first is because those files are needed to play GOTM22 - so I should get this to work at first.

What am I doing wrong?

The probable mistake is what Aeson says, pointing to the wrong folder. I did the same thing as you and got it right. I don't think I had to load any earlier setup-files.

i had the same problem, my pedaicons text file was read only and it wouldnt overwrite it, so i removed the read only designation & tried again, it worked.

I am having the same problem and I just realized that I have PTW Patch v1.27f could this be the problem

To clarify a few things, I was running the 1.21f patch, and I wasn't having any problems finding the game save file.

I wound up playing GOTM 22 in Civ1.29. When I finally lost that game , I decided to start the Medal play 54 game. That game crashed, too, this time with a page fault.

I decided to take drastic measures. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled PTW. It was then that I noticed that the GOTM21 full package that I had downloaded originally was for Civ1.29, not PTW. I had followed the links from GOTM22 for PTW, how did I get that file?

Anyway, I downloaded and installed the PTW updates for GOTM 21 and 22. Then, just for fun, I patched up to PTW1.27. Tried to open the 54 game, and yay! It opened right up!

I still haven't figured out how I got the wrong GOTM21 update, but it's all fixed now.
