Help! My game is crashing.

I've sunk way too many hours into this one to let it go :/

Basically the "waiting for other civs part" in my game has decided to go on forever (I tried letting it run while I slept...no dice). I reloaded to a prev save and got another couple turns farther and now it's doing it again. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I can do? Or is this game lost?

I had the same problem fairly recently until I updated to the latest patch. I think my saves were toast after that but I might be wrong.

Make sure you are using patch m. If you are, post a copy of a save game the turn before the endless turn, and I'll try to fix it.

I am using patch m, yes (at least I'm pretty sure I am..)

That would be amazing if you knew how to fix it :D I mean, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it was just too many units in the map. I can't bring myself to delete a bunch of units though because that would effectively destroy the game as well :(

Hrm. Apparently my save file of 2.23 MB exceeds the maximum I can upload to the forum(2 MB)...apparently my game exceeded 2 MB about 100 turns ago :/

EDIT: Well, here it is on rapidshare. http://rapidshare.com/files/379870085/Myddine_VI_AD-1150rrrrrrrr.CivBeyondSwordSave.html

Well deleting Basium's 500 stack of Angels didn't fix it (yes 500, you can see why I don't want to let this game go ;_; ). Hrm. Maybe it's something else then.

If the save is that large, then it could be very difficult to track down the source of the problem. On what size map are you playing?

Well the intent was to have some sort of epic game, so Huge. Lots of water but still...a lot going on.

Sorry aimlessgun, I'm actually not real good with computers and I got frustrated trying to download the game from fileshare. If the file is that big, I probably won't be able to fix it, I have a lot of problems with huge maps on my system.

Sorry.

Best wishes,

No problem, thanks for trying :)

Maybe if I upgrade my computer in a few months I'll give it another shot haha. How would you have tried to fix it though?

The 'turn never ends' problem is usually called a 'WoC' bug, standing for 'Waiting for Other Civilizations', since this is the message that flashes after you hit 'end turn'.

The sources of these WoC bugs haven't been found, but they are almost certainly caused by an AI unit that is likely entering an infinite loop. So, you can go into the worldbuilder, and delete units. I don't do anything more intelligent than delete units until I find which one has caused the error, but I do have experience in trying to find these units. So, I delete the offending unit, re save the game, and post it back to you.

If the unit or units is (are) critical, then I remove the unit, play a turn, and then put the unti back into the game again through the worldbuilder.

Best wishes,

Breunor
