Hi! I am changing the game and such like and I had 3 questions:

1) Is there any way to change the "Civilopedia" so that you get info on techs, units, change the icon e.t.c

2) Is there a way to change the behavior of custom techs?
(By that I mean: I put in a new tech called Policing. When I research it, everything is as normal. But! When I 'discover the secret' it gives me civilopedia entry advanced flight (Which is question 1 not 2!)

ANYWAY, i go to the menu where it asks you what to research next, but Policing is still there!!!! Help!

3) Is there a way to put extra units in beyond the three in rules.txt without sacrificing the predefined units?

I hope you can help,
Cheers.

1. You can't change Civilopedia entries unfortuantly..., you can change the icons and such, which is probably in the editor button right next to the cheat button.

2. Yes, you would just change the pre-requisties and experation and all that stuff... which is in the editor button.

3. There are technically 11 un-used units, that you could alter and give the character access to.

Does that explain everything?

1) YES you can change the civipedia entries. For MGE versions, you edit the text in the file describe.txt. For FW versions and below, you edit the file called pedia.txt. In both cases, you need to make a copy of the master file and put it into the folder of your scenario.

2) The pedia entires are hard coded by position so you'll have to keep track of what you renamed and replace the correct text into the right spot.

3) Yes there are an extra eight spots.

Please download and examine my 'The Rape of Nations' for samples of 1,2 and 3 being done.

Ok! Thanx 4 ur reply, but I still need some more help.
I know there is space for un-used units. But, I am not sure how to put them into rules.txt. I tried to make one, but in the game, it just didn't appear.
Could you tell me what to put in? Don't go to too much trouble tho.

most likely you didn't change the pre-requisite of the new unit to something which was already researched.

Another possible explantion is the knight/museteer bug. Most people wil leave those two slots blank to avoid problems. For more detail look under the reference section at the main civfan site.

I don't want to keep posting over and over, but a few more things came to my attention.
1) pedia.txt only covers units and buildings and the suchlike, not techs!

2)How do i make NEW entries in the pedia and make it so they are called up at the right moment? Is this even possible?

3)Can you make NEW Wonders? (Obvisously not replacing ones that are there, I hate doing that in games)

Kobayashi is always posting while I'm typin!
Anyway! When I made the new unit, I gave it tactics as preq.
I started the cheat menu, gave all techs, and went into create unit (Shift + F1).
I pressed Adv. and got every unit except the one I had tried to make!

Err.. its part of the game, one of the pull down menus. There is a full set of editors for terrain, advances, units etc. I believe its to the left of the cheat menu.

You still need to do the graphics and sounds yourself but the editors are useful for customising values, changing names and integrating new units etc.
