Hello again. Apologies for the obnoxious title but this is something of great annoyance and significance to me that most of you probably would find extremely simple.

I posted here earlier attempting to get a copy of the Civ 4's vanilla carrier model for an A&A mod I am developing, which uses similair .nif files. A member of this site was kind enough to give me one.

I now own a copy of the game via Steam, but there is seemingly no information pertaining as to how to extract some of the game's models. The Steam version (or at least my copy) has absolutely no .PAK files, which seems to be the go-to file for Civ4 modding. The few .fpk files available cannot be opened with Pakbuilder for whatever reason and I have had absolutely no luck with any of the other various file types (.bak files and a few others). There were a few units in the visible directory but most of these had no .dds files with them and more importantly I was not able to find what I was looking for; the vanilla ModernArmor files.

This .nif model is absolutely crucial to me and my mod and any assistance in locating this file or [much] preferably, if possible, sending it to me would be GREATLY appreciated. I have been pulling my hair out over this for some time now.

Thank you,
WAC

The files you want are the .fpk files.

PakBuild opens them, but not using the "Open" menu item on the "File" menu. You need to use the Unpack choice on the PAK menu to open and unpack a .fpk file.

The .fpk files are in the assets folders where the game is installed, not the empty folders which are named things like "assets0.fpk" over in the My Games stuff (those are not files, they are folders and they are empty). They are named about the same (although the real files start with a capital "A" and the folders a lowercase "a") but the folders are irrelevant. All the base game .fpk files are in the vanilla Assets folder - neither Warlords now BtS has any in their Assets folder. Some mods have additional .fpk files in their Assets folders.
