I have the problem listed in the tech support FAQs re the blank screen after the movie login - however I have tried the .ini solution (i think properly) including the refresh=60 (my monitor hz) instruction and even tried several variations on this theme with no success. 
It may be I'm doing it wrong but I'm assuming the .ini file is the notebook file called civilization3 within the Infogames interactive/Civilization III file on my hard drive.
Any other suggestions?
