Help, tried everything else, search, etc

Heres the issue:
I reciently upgraded to vista. I have the full version of both AC and the expansion. The install went fine, its just when I open the game, in the main menue, theres a big black box in the upper left of the screen, covering about 45% of it. It is in the game as well, when I start a game.
Heres what Ive done to fix the problem:
Run in compatability mode (win98,2000,NT,XPsp2, no help)
One thing I read that was supposed to help was to alter the config file and alter value bleh bleh bleh, which I did, to no avail.
My sys specs are:
Core 2 Duo t7200 (2ghz) 2GB ram, 120 Gig HDD Radeon x1700 graphics card
(its a laptop)
This was my favorite game, so any help would be dearly appreciated...

Trekin,

I've seen reports of both completely successful Vista installs and mostly successful with minor problems that don't affect gameplay. Haven't heard of your problem though. Since it appears to be a graphics problem, you should concentrate your troubleshooting in that area.

I don't have Vista, but in Win XP there are compatibility options related to graphics (Run in 256 colors, Run in 640x480 screen resolution). You might want to try those options, if present. You also might want to try changing your native Windows resolution and/or color options. Also try adding directdraw=0 to the [Alpha Centauri] section of your Alpha Centauri.ini file.

If none of that helps, play around with other settings with your graphics card (and check for updated drivers). Finally, if you haven't already done so, try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Thanks for the reply, I have already tried to do the video compatability modes. Ill try the directdraw=0, and ill check for updated video drivers.
