Help with 'A call to Power'

In Civ. II:
'A call to power'
I am having problems with this game online.
Me and my 2 friends always start a game, then save it. But when we try to re-load the game they always get each other races.
IE: Friend 1 starts as the Romans and Friend 2 starts out as the Vikings, then, when I reload it, Friend 1 is now the Vikings and Friend 2 is the Romans. We have tried a lot of things, and we would like to continue the game we have played for hours. Please help!

Are you sure that the person who is the "host" is identified as the host each time? That is, whoever actually starts the game should be the same each time (identified in the computer as player 1), so that the correct civ is assigned to that player.
