Help with chat

First I must confess I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, so please make your directions as easy to follow as possible, think directions for a kindergartener, thanks.

My question: How do you get into the chat, I downloaded Trillian now what do I do?

Chat as in IRC? Simple, I can help you.
First go to "Manage my connections", and click on "make new connection"
Then click on IRC. A little thing comes up. Where it says "Nickname" type in whatever nickname you want to use.
Where it says server, to access the Civfanatics chatroom type in "irc.irc-chat.net"
The other stuff is unimportant. After you connect, it should show up on the "manage my connections" thing. Click on the white button beneath your personal picture, it's for IRC. A dropdown menu comes up. Click on "join channel"
Then at type in "#civfanatics" (no quotes) and press "GO", and you are there.
