Been playing this game along with the addon for several years now, yes i bought both titles seperately.
I am here to say hello because i just went to the new user introduction thread, but seems to be for that other game civilisation - sorry guys, i dont like those games as much as smac/ax .
Does anyone play this multiplayer anymore? i saw a thread here for games played by pbem, but was wondering if people play it like off the cuff - spontanious? if so would u guys get back to me with details of any games played this way? perhaps meet up on say yahoo messenger and organise sommit this way???

anyway would be interested in finding out, also would like to know of any good strategys for overall game play , since to some ill tempered factions vendetta seems normal to them - which can be annoying when your being irritated by 2 factions at the same time.

also are there any plans do you know , of another title by these talented guys for a follow up? just that i love the whole game, its unique and very absorbing - alot of work went into designing this title - a real gem. - you can keep your rts games.

cheers

I'm playing a PBEM, but it's kinda short on members.

well ive never done a game by that method, but ill give it a go as long as its no too advanced - and of course as long as the maps large enuff for alittle old me to have a chance of getting going.

Yo. I loved this game to bits as well. Played it game after game without being able to get bored. Although I have to tell you Civ4 does blow it out of the water. I may never miss or play AC again.

One of the easiest strategies is to try to collect Mind Worms right from the start and try to nurture them to Demon Boil by exploring. You get
- a nice set of mind worms, shouldn't need me to tell you what you can do with those
- to explore most of the planet
- and as a result, make contact with other players
- a health load of energy credits from destroying wandering native lifeforms that didn't join you.

Playing a faction with high planet rating like Gaia/Prophet/Caretaker, and tuning up the native lifeforms setting (not required, but it helps), and just pull your weight in other departments and this will breeze through Transcend Ironman.

I have to agree on the Gaia/Prophet/Caretaker strategy, seems they have all the pluses due to the native life form game - green is king obviously i played gaia all the time, hardly ever bother with the other factions, when i meet mind worms i capture them what 90% of the time. Well it would be nice to play a game online... thing is its finding them. Now i read about bugs in the game, even after the last patch by electronic arts, im sure those home made patches are fine - but i would much prefer one from ea myself - i cannot beleive its been 10 years since the game came out?? - no chance of an ea sanctioned patch now i guess - jez times flown by.

Having just gone to the local corner shop, and bought my can of overly strong beer, another thought sprung to mind - does anyone play "stars" ?

More details please. We won't find much by googling "stars".

But I also played other factions. Yang and Zarkhov worked fine for me at mid levels, until I got too reliant on green. The most fun one is the Pirates. Not even Civ 4 has anything like that. Owning all of the oceans with no competition. It's kinda imbalanced even in principle, but it's fun.

"Stars!" is a legend among strategy games. It hasn't aged all that well imho, but it deserves an honorable mention in the history of strategy gaming in any case. It offered a solid multiplayer strategy experience at a time when this feature was merely added as an afterthought by other titles. Check its Wikipedia entry for more information.

stars! is an awesome game, its what imho what masters of orion 3 should have been, still who am i to say such blasphamy :O)
