highest science in a city?

I was warming up after Thanksgiving (haven't installed Civ in several years) when I discovered that quite unintentionally my capital city reached a knowledge production of 116 lightbulbs around 700AD! What is the highest you've had in a single city? Have you ever played with the specific intent of pushing the knowledge production for a single city?

I usually have a super-science-city. Where I build all the science wonders etc..

My highest is around 86 I think. I'm not as good a player as you are :)

My max was 256 bulbs for my capital city.
I had Library\University\Colossus\Copernicus\Shakespeare's theatre, I'm not sure if I had Newton's college.

But it went alot lower when my wonders' effect was cancelled.

... ...
same here. it's in most cases my capital, but it may differ if another city has gold or gems, i usually try to place my 2nd or 3rd city on a place between (the) (3 or 4) specials, in most cases i have to take a seaside with 2 fish-specials and the possibility to build 1 or 2 mines...

but if you take a look at kirilov and carniflex in the SPACERACE thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=113563
it might be far more effective to build as much settlers / republic(=we love the leader) / cities / caravans as possible.
remember the 7 most important things beside founding cities, building settlers and founding cities:
Code:
Alphabet >>> Code of Laws >>> Republic \\

         >>>   Writing    >>> Literacy   >>>  Bank

Bronze >>> Currency >>> Trade //
and you have KNOWLEDGE and MONEY.
get these 7 things first - as fast, as possible. ;)

simply imagine or accept that it is possible to build spaceships even without knowledge-transfers from other tribes in ~ 2000 BC ... under peaceful conditions ...

City spamming huh? I'm starting to do that a lot now.. I always feel uneasy (like it breaks the game) when I do it.. but I can't seem to find an incentive to possess fewer cities :|

i did edit above inbetween a little, as usual ... ;)

trada - imagine your tribe would start in the middle of asia with NO RiVERS, NO SEASIDE, NO GOLD and GEMS - you would have to get money and knowledge yourself
because the other tribes are far away the first some hundred centuries.
i think this economical 'knowledge strategy' is the only way
to win/survive with civ.1.dos at higher levels.

Yup, I understand and agree with you.

I thought it looked slightly different then I noticed that nifty ASCII tech tree of yours :)

I should point out that 116 lightbulbs was under Despotism. It makes a difference. I went back to the save game and converted to Republic and it went up to 180 lightbulbs! Unnecessary, as I beat the game under Despotism, but a fine example to remind us to CHANGE GOVERNMENTS! hehe

Factors: city size 9, library, university, colossus, copernicus

Reminder: this was not a planned development. I wasn't aiming for big science. I just noticed it one turn. If I planned, I would have been a Republic earlier and built the city up larger than 9.

Response to Tenochtitlan: 256. Very impressive! Do you recall what year and government?

Late BC or early AD, under republic. It was my capital so no corruption. But the funny thing was that the bulbs in the city were blocking some of the map window!

Let me check if I still have the save.

i checked out my actual games and found 290 bulbs in my capital.
its in year 1 ;), republic, all ww´s, size 23, at 50% science rate and could be even raised with more scientists.

but i remember a game whith about 400 years ago.

i dont know how common it is, but in the early parts of the game i often receive 2 technologies a round!!!
