I'm still working on Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire (for Warlords). Basically it's a port of Pink's CivIII RFRE, but with many events added. Some parts are noticeably different though, like there is no massive war with Aegyptus.
Most of the main historical events are in already. Some are missing in the 4th and 6th centuries though. The main game starts in 275BC, and runs till ~600AD. It's still in development so there will be some things that aren't working right yet.
There are 200AD, 400AD, and 500AD scenarios as well. Ajidica is reworking the 500AD scenario.
I spent a lot of time getting the 200AD scenario to be reasonably historical in terms of the Roman army. The right mixture of legions, auxillaries, and cavalry as well as how they were allocated is documented very well due to the lengthy period of peace that is just about to end.
Research is time line driven. The player has some choices, but for the most part the path is fixed. The AI doesn't get any choices.
Some of the notable events:
1. Hannibal's invasion of Italia - Hannibal attempts to rapidly conquer from northern to southern Italia
2. Division of Theodoseus - The Empire is split into the ERE and WRE.
3. revolts during the "Crisis of the Third Century" - the Gallic and Palmyrene Empires secede.
4. Spartacus slave revolt
5. Social War
6. Vandals fight through Gaul, Hispania, and then invade Africa.
7. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Jewish revolts, Boudica's revolt, Illyrian revolt...
An example of detail is that only cities with civitas can build legions. Civitas (citizenship) is achieved by accumulating enough Roman culture in a city, and sometimes by decree (like was done to end the Social War). Another is some cities have ethnic buildings. Illyrians were considered the best recruits, so those cities have a building the provides the "Illyrians" promotion. The islands can build Balearic slingers. Greek cities can build hoplies. Only Syrian cities can build auxillary archers.
Unit names are either historical, or historical sounding

For example "Legio XII Fulminata" and "II Adiutrix Pia Fidelis" are legion names, and "I Hispanorum Auriana" and "I Hispanorum Auriana" are Miles Auxillarius names.
