Well, about time this showed up :D I was putting it off since, well, first turns don't give that much to write about. But no longer! war is brewing and provincial maps are being drawn up! just the thing to start with!
So with no further delay, --drumroll please-- welcome to the History and Lore Society of Fanatica! The Society is actually composed (as many of you already know) by many historians and the group will most likely grow with our nation. As of now it is composed of:

Lead Historian: Ehecatl Aztin
Head of the Province History Branch: CivGeneral
Foreign Affairs Historian: Stuck as a Mac
Military Historian: Peri
Turn Chat historian: --vacant--

Thanks to the valiant effortsour cartographers are making to provide us with provincial maps we shall soon need Provincial Historians, dedicated to the history of the province, it's ties with the empire, it's growth, it's people and culture. Since CivGeneral is head of said branch, he will also be provincial historian of our Capital Province, the history of each of the cities in said province as well as organizing all the works done by provincial historians.

May I also remind the citizens that the job of -Turn Chat Historian- is vacant and needs filling. This position is vital since it is this historian that gives us all the dates and facts of our Nation.

There will also be a thread (based on an earlier discussion had in the #civfanatics room) in the citizens forum where all citizens can post their views and discuss the historical works posted here, as well as other discussions about our history. This thread is only for the workers of the Society, anyone interested in filling positions should either PM anyone of those listed above or post in the thread in the citizens forum.

That's it :) Happy reading.

Hopefully the Province maps are going to be drawn up quickly :).

Current Works of the Society

With the recent hostilities between us and the egyptians, the military and FA historians have begun work on this, their reports should be posted here shortly.
Also, a new creation myth is being created. All ideas, sudgestions or comments are welcomed in our discussion thread, in the Citizens forum

Historical Archives of the Society
As head of the Society I'll keep a copy of the archives in my HD in case we loose the links, uploaded files, etc.

A History Of The War With Egypt

In 450BC Cleopatra the despotic ruler of the Egyptians declared war on our beautiful nation. After we refused her unreasonable demands she vowed to destroy our cities and kill our citizens.

Fear gripped the nation. Our legions were few and scattered. However the resolve of the people is strong and their will unbreakable. The cities called on all able bodied men to enlist in the legions. Men flocked to the cities to enlist. Weapons were crafted and the sound of hammer on anvil could be heard throughout the land. Our roving bands of warriors returned to Aureus, our eastern capital, to equip and train with the new weapons.

Outside Aureus the first of the Egyptians advanced. They struck against us but were defeated by the brave warriors from Noshuret. Our soldiers were now ready to strike back. Plans were made to capture El-Amarna and Byblos. However before we could launch our attack disaster befell us. Settlers from Noshuret became separated from their escort and ran into a band of Egyptian soldiers patrolling south of El-Amarna. The Egyptians showed no mercy and slaughtered every man woman and child.

In 350BC the legions poured forth from Aureus commanded by Q. Caecilius Metellus. The glorious III legion attacked the Egyptians who were laying in wait outside the city and routed them completely. Thus began a Golden Age of prosperity and discovery. Our swift victory was followed by an equally swift defeat. The II legion was ambushed in the forest and utterly destroyed. The Egyptian forces in the forest began to fortify their position. They cut down trees, erected palisades and dug ditches. They had cut the city off from the rest of Fanatica.

However the mood in Aureus was still good. Metellus sent out 3 more legions. (I, IV, V) The V legion followed the road south and entered the forest. The battle was fiercely contested but the legion vanquished the despicable Egyptians. The tribune M. Poplilius Piso led the final assault on the ramparts and personally killed the Egyptian commander and his bodyguard. His deeds are honoured with a statue in the forum of his home city of Nur Gisnod. While this battle was being fought the I and IV legions marched in good order north along the road to Lake Asphinxia. They were ordered to rendezvous with the legions under the command of A. Claudius Pulcher, a citizen of Pengiunadua.

By the spring of 330BC the plans for the invasion of Egypt were well in hand. three more legions had been recruited. Two of these were sent north along with the III Aureus, named because of the victory that bought forth our Golden Age. The veteran V legion marched south to reinforce the Regia.

Back in the north the foolhardy commander of the IV legion, Q. Servilius Caepio, charged a band of Egyptian swordmen. This was to be his first and last battle. Caepio was a rich and vain man who cared nothing for his men. He only wanted glory for himself. For this reason he did not listen to those who advised him. He did not bother to scout the terrain or he would have discovered a much larger force waiting for him in the low ground. The battle was quick and bloody. The Egyptians captured Caepio, cut off his head and threw it into the camp of Metellus. This caused alarm in the camp and the I legion retreated to safety.

By the middle of 310 BC an army of 6 legions was assembled with two further legions marching east along the road from the capital. Metellus was given overall command of the Army of the North. The conquest of Egypt and the destruction of the Pharoahs was about to begin……

Thanks. Much appreciated.:)
BTW I shall expand on the loss of the settlers in the next edit to get a bit of woe and misery in and to unite the people against the hateful Egyptians. ;)

I would really like to continue the history. however it is really difficult without chat logs. If anyone can help me out with the logs to the last 3 chats i would be very grateful.
