Small map, Highlands. I'm Khazad, my empire now spanning the right third, with a little Grigori (capitulated) at the bottom right. Veil-worshipping Bannor cover the central third, Clan of Embers is on the left. Dis is near my border, behind Sabathiel's (former) region of control. First few hundred turns I was substantially ahead, then Sabathiel managed to get a couple hundred point lead (I think we're at something like 3300/3100), until I decided my war machine was ready for a good time. Invaded and started sacking cities, building up a buffer outside my borders.
Problem is that I'm not at war with Hyborem, and Dis's cultural borders take up two very important strategic chokepoints: I want to push through, but need to go the other way unless I declare on Hyborem. From a military standpoint, it'd make sense to just smash Dis right now... after all, Hyborem can't possibly stop my Stack of Doom. Also, since I'm razing the cities of a Veil worshiper, and, more than that, razing cities exactly where Hyborem would reasonably want to expand... obviously if I don't kill Hyborem right now, he's going to go from 630ish to Kael knows how strong, and right next to me.
I've never had a real war with either Mercurians or Infernals, they've never grown beyond a petty nuisance... and it's a Small map, so the hell terrain doesn't seem to be causing too many problems... so I kinda sorta want to pretend I don't know how much razing Sabathiel's cities is helping Hyborem. But I'm conflicted.
So... do I go the sound military strategy route and destroy everything in my path so there's no-one around to challenge me later... or do I simply lay the smackdown on the uppity Bannor and let the three Veil civs redistribute their two thirds of the map?
Anyone had a good war with Hyborem? Is it fun enough to be worth the effort in coddling him until the conclusion of my war with the Bannor?
