As expected my move into the top 10 was short lived. No hard feelings, just a renewed determination to play more Civ! I am finding my way at Sid level now. I am hopeful my first attempt will be a win so it can be submitted.

I'm one diety win (that qualifies) away! .:)

I can't seem to use the smiles any more, is that like what happened to the avatars, because of increased activity?

Now it's working, nevermind.

Good luck for Sid, I gave up my tini sid diplo attempts, maybe I need some new determination...

Thanks. It has certainly been testing my determination. I am a full tech age behind a runaway AI in 1500 AD's. I don't like my chances right now but the game is not over yet. This one is close enough that if it doesn't work out, I'll try again. With a little more favorable conditions and maybe some better tactics I expect I will defeat it.

@Pentium: I guess I went a bit overboard with Regent submissions but I found my new 'toy' in playing the Sumerians. These guys are fantastic for fast research and you don't need a good roll with Mapfinder (although I did use it for a couple of games). One river cow and a couple of bgs is all you need for a settler factory.

@zerksees: what type of map are you playing? I can only seem to cope with 'pelago on Sid. If you're playing continents or pangea, how do you manage to compete?

Can't you play with your new toy on Deity? :crazyeye:

It is possible to keep the tech pace on Sid Pangaea. Of course only with GL, otherwise they get to IA before you get out of AA. After Education, I was able to keep up until late IA up a few times, but then I was usually attacked and killed.

Then I tried Tiny 20k with Byzantines and I found that one very interesting. I had a few very good attempts, but those were lost to Domination. Yes, Khan conquered Shaka and I had 1-3 cities.

Then came Civ4 and I still haven't beaten Sid. :(

I've been playing with the Persians on Deity. After all these peaceful games I wanted to try a domination game but I too have now got C-IV and so I find myself split between some thing that I know pretty well and another that is fresh and unknown.

edit: I forgot that I had one attempt with them.
Tone with a 1260 AD Standard Deity Spaceship game for 9158 points.
The AI didn't play ball with their fair share of the research and I had poor luck with free techs otherwise it might have been a bit quicker.

Was that you playing no military?

I find the combination of tech pace and massive military difficult to deal with on Sid Pangea. It is just so much more difficult than Deity. Is the GLib really the only serious chance of survival?

Archipelago. I need to beat the thing first. Then mabye I'll figure out how to handle it on continents. I am pretty sure my current strategies would be almost worthless on other map types.

Yes, I think so. Around turn 150 (buy alpha, 2 min runs, and some turns of building it), when I build it, is usually just the time when AI gets Astronomy.

Archipelago is not only easier, but also completely different. The problem I find is that you can't be Agr and Sci at the same time. That MA free tech can save you, but so can quick expansion.

May be you should consider trying out Egypt for the Sid level. It's really easy to beat Sid using Egypt. Btw, I have played Civ4, but I think I like Civ3 better. I think I'm going back to Civ3 now; will wait until I AMD or Intel to release a 5 GHz processor before I go back to Civ4. My P4 @3.4 GHz with 1 Gig of RAM system is way too slow for Civ4 at the moment.
