bravo for 55 games though, anyway

I concur. Interesting to note that had we still been competing with the original VVV scoring system Crafty1 would have overtaken vexing by now. Maybe Crafty1 is trying to get to the top of the summary tables which have never been altered, and thus do not reflect the changes that were made!!

EDIT
Maybe Crafty1 just plays the types of games he enjoys and couldn't give two hoots what anyone else thinks, and why should he?

Maybe Crafty1 knows something about the future plans for a new scoring system that no one else is aware of.

Maybe Crafty1 is building up as much knowledge as he can at the lower levels before taking the higher levels by storm, I have a strong feiLing this might be the case!!

EDIT - He will have to act quickly because I am systematically taking his points away, "and I might add" the ones that have cost him the most hours to achieve. Oh yes another one bites the dust!!
Come on Crafty, give it some!! You talk the talk, so walk the walk. You repeated quotes from me as if I had set you a challenge when infact I had been enquiring as to your involvement and thus whether it was worth me staying on or not.

EDIT - Everyone on this forum knows that I am a stupid old git, I can't even win a regular Deity game despite 3,ooo hrs of practice. The only reason I am top of the charts is because I never give up, so xger can stick it where the sun does not shine. Oh! and xger - What happened to all your hard earned points after you pissed me off?

Short reply. I mentioned last time that I was moving and that I would need to change my gameplay, what you see here is the result of that. Still having some connection difficulties with internet after the move and so unlikely to be doing much during this and possibly next update.

As for tactics/plans, Yep, I play games I like and no I don't have a clue about the new scoring system. I will look at that when final clear plans are announced. For now it is all just for fun.

I mentioned that it would take me a while to catch you TractorBoy and now that you are tackling some of my existing golds it will only take longer.

As for the long game times...I have this habit of leaving the game running whilst shopping, watching movies (playing during advert breaks), during telephone conversations etc. So I could not tell you how long any game actually took.

Congrats on your gains though, it is all about promoting the best out of the game.

Back when I can get more stable connection.

Have fun all.

The game I just completed.
Prince, Domination, standard, epic, inland sea, China. Score victory.
Your logged playtime 23hrs back in 2011. My logged playtime 43hrs and I ended 61 turns early.
Of my 43hrs, less than 50 turns out of 689 were spent fighting. Now we all know that going to war accounts for the vast majority of play time, so what is wrong? It's just like I have been saying - THE WORKERS DON'T DO AS THEY ARE INSTRUCTED and have to be prompted every turn. It was a nightmare, and I will not be going back to such games even if Crafty1 starts competing in these areas.

A comparison of what I have been talking about would be this Deity score game that I recently submitted.
Deity, Space victory, standard, epic, pangea, siam.
Because I am playing for a score victory it is pretty much the same as a domination victory only I cover the whole map except for one opposition Capital with my Cities.
Play time 41hrs. I was at war for 80% of the game and I feel that the time was well spent.

Granted that due to patches over the last three years, there are definitely some no go areas even for the very best of players. There is plenty of scope for points if enough people joined together and opened up new challenges at the top end, right now Deity is relatively untested.
The last vanilla patch happened round about the time I started playing in July 2012. Now if I can accumulate the sort of points tally that I have put together, then you had better believe that there are plenty of others who could wipe the floor with anything I have done.
Maybe some of the guys who currently play in the Civ4 HOF will eventually move on to Civ5 HOF, they are really serious competitors. Who knows what is round the corner.

EDIT
There are medals/points to be gained at all levels of play, you certainly don't have to be some kind of genius to play on the HOF, all you need is enthusiasm.

Found this thread by curiosity.

I thought about playing CIV5 and I only play HoF, however, all I hear of CIV5 is, that it's clearly inferior to CIV4.

What I heard was, that AI is unable to attack properly because of the new-anti-stacking-system, and that basically takes out the game as a whole for me, because I cannot imagine to fight AIs that are not at least minimally able to wage wars. AIs are already weak enough in CIV4, but I don't wanna imagine playing even weaker ones.

Things that could lead me to playing CIV5 would be good competition or the grafics, but I doubt that that'll be enough. For all honesty I have to say that I never played a single round of CIV5, so maybe you could tell me something about the game, and why you don't play CIV4 HoF, which has very good opponents (WastinTime, Kaitzilla, bcool, Sun Tzu Wu, kovacsflo just to mention a few) and from my experience is a very hard game, even after playing Deity for almost 2y now already.

Deity AIs are quite capable of waging a war that squashes you in civ 5. BNW is significantly better than Vanilla, too.

And it's not as though civ4 is free of exploits, free of stupid AI. They're just different ones.

You're better off actually playing it yourself, seeing what you think of civ5 vs civ4.

I've played few games of CIV 1, 3, 4 back in the day, but the game didn't interest me that much in all honesty. I ended up fiddling with world builder every single time. :D So i can't objectively compare 4 to 5 for you, i'll tell how 5 evolved instead.

Started playing 5 few months before gods and kings came out. Looking back at what it was i can say it was thrown out to the market half finished and another half broken - it was so bad that many people here considered it an insult. No religion, no espionage, deity AI's diplomacy was along the lines of "angry kids with guns". And when it came to war.. well, they just couldn't do it. On top of that, you could get so far ahead in science so quickly, that it was a joke.

I am sure a die hard vanilla civ5 player will find himself playing civ6 when he fires BNW up for the first time. Religion, espionage and ideologies were added. They all compliment each other in a subtle way, which makes the game deep, in my opinion. Most of the flaws were removed, specifically I see AI performing much better in war, using a good mix of units, making tactical retreats and changing their paths of attack if they calculate that current path of attack won't get them anywhere. They're paying city states and other civilisations to aid them and trying to pass resolutions in the world congress, which can harm you.

Many decisions throughout the game will have direct impact on your relations with every other civ and each of them carry some weight (modifier), which adds/subtracts to your current diplomatic status with a specific civilisation.

Of course, it always comes to a point where a capable player overcomes all obstacles and the game becomes managable almost every time you play. From then only fellow HoF players will challenge you. AI is capable enough not to break your immersion meanwhile.

Speaking of participants, there aren't too many, especially at deity level. But some here will give you a good fight for the first place if you decide to buy the game.

Graphics is, of course top notch, that's the only thing i am 100% sure you'll like after playing 4 for so many years. :) You need a good rig to max settings too.

Man, civ4 must be a great game with many people still playing it after all these years. Personally, i won't go back, as one strategy game is time consuming enough. I do like some shooters and racing too, so civ4 is definitely out of the frame, or else i will become a cave dweller.

Hope that helps you.
