A number of you have come up with ideas and suggestions for nonRules changes/additions to the HOF, and we've been spotting them in various threads. In order for my staff and I to better choose which ones we can implement, this thread will serve as the central "suggestion box" from here on out.

I wished for a list of players who submitted and number of entries. Down the line, this could become more and more detailed. I am working on a program to do this, so Dianthus doesn't have to waste his time doing it. Considering my current skill, the finished product that I have in mind may take awhile. We'll see how it turns out.

Smirk also mentioned in another thread that if there was a link to the threads about submitted games in the HoF update threads, it would be easier to read about the HoF games. Anyone who is drawn to the thread by the announcement on the main page will then be more likely to check out the games, thereby increasing activity in the HoF. I hope I explained his idea clearly enough.

By the way, thanks for this thread.

Most of my HOF "Wishes" have been rejected, so I won't reiterate them here. :(

A. ACCESS TO PLAYERS' INTERMEDIATE SAVES
It would be useful/interesting to be able to download Players' intermediate .SAV files submitted along with the usual 4000BC/Finish savs.

You might want to anyway. I don't want to think too far ahead, but when the time comes to start HOFIV, this thread will definitely be one place I fish for ideas since we'll be starting from scratch. ;)
EMan edit Feb 22, 2005: Since there have been "Requests" from Below, so to speak, here are some of the ideas that have "come and gone" over the past couple of years:

1. EMPTY HOF SLOTS: NO MAXIMUM ENTRIES
Where an HOF List has less than 10 entries, and there's plenty of 'em, the same Player's games can be entrered into the List, without the "2-Maximum-Games-Per-List Rule" applying. As the List fills up, the Player's games drop out leaving him eventually with a maximum of 2 entries for that List. Why have Empty slots when games have been played that could fill 'em?

2. MULTIPLE VICTORIES, MULTIPLE ENTRIES IN LISTS
This was introduced recently by 'slug and I thought it was a good idea. A Player wins a game with multiple Victory conditions (i.e. Conquest + Domination) and is put in both Lists, if applicable. The chances are that the secondary victory condition would only be filling an Empty slot in a List......so why not have a game in the slot rather than an empty space?
BTW, this one is already in effect for games ending in 2050AD!......Haven't heard anybody complaining! ;)

3. TIED SCORE & END DATE = TIED RANKING
If you finish in the same year and have the exact same score, the Ranking in the HOF List would be tied. For example, 5 Players have the same score and end-date playing Aztecs, Chieftain level on Tiny map, Conquest Victory....they would all be 1= not 1 thru 5.

4. SUBMISSION DEADLINE DATE
This one may actually be a feature that is going to stick as of press time. It would be useful to know the exact time/date by whence a game needs to be submitted to make the next HOF update.

5. NO RULES.....JUST RIGHT
This would be a SEPARATE, yes separate, HOF, where there are NO Red/Orange/Green Rules and you can Reload or Replay a game as much as you like. Would the Top Players still come out on top with No-Rules play? Could SirPleb's fine games be improved upon? (By someone other than SirPleb?) How fast a finish could the recent GOTM game have been played? ;)

The Playing Field would be Level and Honor Code would be almost unnecessary! (viz. Cheating would be a lot more work! ;) )

This could be called the "Firaxis-Rules Rule HOF" (Firaxis Rules only) or the "No-Rules HOF". :)

Now, are you sure you wanted these ideas regurgitated?

Might as well list them again, in my opinion, so at least people know what not to suggest.

This idea will probably get implemented, at least for a while. We only have so much server space, so it's possible in the future the intermediates would have to be removed.

I'd like to see dates of submission added to the listing to see how long a game has stood at the top of the list. I think it would be neat to know how long a position has been held.
:) This we can also do.

There could be a column on the lists for a .txt file submitted by the Player, perhaps in lieu of a thread, that describes the Game. :)

BTW, as requested, I've updated my earlier Post. (#3) :mischief:

Appreciated. More food for thought when it comes time to do IVHOF.

:bump:

We've implemented most of the ideas we've received in this thread. Has anyone got any new ideas?

Is it possible to attach a .txt file when submitting a game? In lieu of a URL address. :)

That's sort of possible right now. The URL doesn't have to be to a .htm/.html, it could be to a .zip or .txt. You just need to upload that .zip or .txt somewhere.

I'd like to see a limit on the number of same-civilization entries in each category, or some other method for insuring variety in the HoF tables.

For example, look at fast Conquest on Tiny maps. Almost everyone uses the Aztecs, looks to get lucky with a map where they have the other 2 civs close, and then wipe those 2 civs out with a few Jaguar Warriors. This makes the table uninteresting.

Doing a fast conquest with the English, for example, requires much more skill and ought to be rewarded with a table entry.

WOW! Now that's a big request. While we opened this thread to be open to ideas, we were thinking more along the lines of small enhancements to the webpage, not tinkering with the table structure. While an interesting idea, it would triple the size of the HOF (as there's 30+ Civs but only 10 slots per table).

Besides, I'd say DaveMcW just trashed the idea that Aztecs are best.

Notice he didnt say to sort by civ, but maybe put a limit on number of same civ entries...
(Im not taking sides, just pointing out, that I think you misinterpreted the request)

Thanks Dianthus....will try that!
