So this is the anti cav level 4 promotion
It provides +10 against cavalry to any adjacent unit of a different class.
What I was not aware of was it is stackable
In the below situation the rocket artillery can one shot a modern armour unit with just 3 adjacent... 6 would give it 155 strength... not that we ever get many level 4 spears but its a strong promotion against cav.

Wow, I didn't realize that. The potential is scary but, as you say, you're unlikely to have enough of them to make it matter. This promotion was huge for me in my recent play-through of Jadwiga's Legacy. I almost never build any of the anti-cav units in a regular game, and I was genuinely surprised when the pikemen I got for founding my first two cities turned into powerhouses. The only other time I've really used them is the hoplites Conquests of Alexander. Come to think of it hold the line would work wonders against the elephants at the end of that scenario.

Not only are they expensive but I don't want to prioritize dead-end Military Tactics to upgrade them. I think I just got a step closer to beating Alexander's scenario on Deity though. I've been giving it a try every so often and it's a tough nut to crack.

One of the first things i noticed when I got civ 6 is that spearmen are useless compared to civ 5. In 5 I would make some spearmen and get the cost back in performance but now I never Ever make spearmen....better off just using warriors till swordsman or horsemen.
