I like some features in Civilization III, but for some reason I don't enjoy it as much as the first two games. I hope that civ 4 will be more in the spirit of civ 1 and 2, although having said that I would also hope that the game allows you to play with a vast number of civilizations (rather than just seven) as in the third game.

What do you mean by "just seven"? In CivIII you could play with 16 cvis (or 31 if you moded the game). From the previews i think it will be a great game.

I'm guessing that gealai means that you can only have seven opponents on a standard map.

Why dont he use the editor to allow up to 31 civs on the standart map?

Deo, it Civ 1 and 2, you could only play with 7 civs (inclusive of the one you chose) at one time. But if you conquered a starting civ and there was available unclaimed room, a new civ would appear somewhere else in the world. Also, if a civ was conquered and there was a available room, it could reemrge following the fall of the capital.

Opps, I should have made myself clear on the above post- I meant to say that in Civ 1 and 2 you could only play with up to seven civs at one time; this is unlike Civ 3 where you can play with a lot more civilizations.

Maybe they could get some ideas from this.

Retaining that CTP2 feel and playability but with many new features and concepts. A new 3D tile file, game graphics, unit graphics, special effects. But also new depths to trade, war, empire management and gameplay. Succession, sieges, supply, elite units, generals, historical heroes, empire and unit surrender, migrants, border forts, outposts to use goods anywhere, capture advances from the enemy, advances from goods, natural disasters, major historical events such as the Dark Ages, Black Death and Hun Horde, and much more. There are now 205 units, 193 advances, 21 governments and 51 wonders. Civilization traits that change with the progress of history. Special governments with special units for the Middle Ages, that are restricted to the Civs cultural/religious type so they develop into different players.

Each era has its own special feel making AOM like 4 games in one and there are 4 different starting ages. For the ultimate challenge, play the full campaign on gigantic map on mainly land and settle in for an epic that is “bigger than Ben Hur”.

A new aggressive AI that is also a little unpredictable, together with more Barbarians complete the picture of the ultimate Civ style game.
