I apologize in advance if I include extraneous info in this post. I'd rather be too thorough than forget to include important info.

Symptom: In hotseat, when chopping a forest causes a wonder to be completed at the end of my turn, the games consistantly CTDs at my end of turn when the wonder completes. It gives the standard Windows "this program has encountered an error and needs to close" error message.

This problem is reproducible; I have attached a savegame that generates it consistently.

If I chop the forest, then switch off to something else (so the chops go towards, say, a forge instead of the Great Lighthouse), the game continues to work...until I finish the original wonder, at which point it CTDs at the end of my turn when the wonder completes.

This happens with just basic Civ installed, and persists with Warlords and BtS.

Civ did not always do this. I was able to play fine until roughly 9 months ago.

UNKNOWNS: I play almost exclusively hotseat islands advanced start on a team with a second human, so I'm not sure what impact, if any, those choices have on the error. This also happens most frequently when I'm doing the Great Lighthouse, although I've also seen it do it with the Great Wall.

Done So Far
  • turned off wonder videos. no difference.
  • updated NVidia drivers to 6.14.11.9107; problem persists
  • disabled nvidia card and enabled onboard video card of ass; Civ won't even start with that PoS *cackle*
  • re-enabled NVidia and checked to see if problem persists in single player islands advanced start. It does not. Seems to be hotseat-only.

System Specs
  • Civ versions: Civ IV, Warlords, and Beyond the Sword. No mods. Version 3.1.9.0 when loading BtS.
  • PC Specs: This problem has persisted over two computers. (I gutted my old one to make another.) The only parts carried between the two are the video card and one stick of the RAM.
  • Video card model: NVidia GE Force 6800, drivers 6.14.11.9038 (upgraded to 9107 as per above)
  • OS: Windows XP SP 3
  • Graphics settings in the game: Anti-Aliasing 2, all graphic qualities set to high, 1024 x 768 full screen

Juju,

Wow. Sorry about that. It opens on my computer fine, but crashes at end of turn when the wonder completes.
