how did all the player-made maps and mods

get onto the Civ 3 Play the World disc? How were they selected?

I wasn't around when that happened. I only got started with Civ 3 with Civ 3 Complete so I missed out on what happened. Someone fill me in please

Did they all get paid for their maps/mods by Firaxis?

It is my understanding that those mods were submitted to the Firaxis website by their creators. From what I have heard nobody was payed for them though one or two people may have been payed to do some work for Conquests based on the quality of their mods.

You'll find nearly all mod-makers were PtW-beta or even Civ3 testers anyway. And since it is a modding 'community', recommendations matter.
