Civ3 is the first civ game I've played, and I won my first time with it on regent level. In a new game on monarch difficulty, I got up to 1954 and was in the process of conquering everyone, when I suddenly lost, and I don't know how, or who won!
I know for sure that it wasn't by any condition other than culture. I suspect that Egypt may have won by reaching 20 000 culture points with a city, but I really don't understand how, when I had the top city, ranked 1 in almost every category, and the most great wonders. I can't plant a spy to find out (always caught), so I'm wondering if there's any feature that I'm unaware of that would indicate who won.
I can't believe something this important wouldn't be revealed instantly! Also, there should be some kind of warning about who is close to winning so the player can at least get a chance to deal with them (or is there?).
