How do Adept events work?

There are events where something bad happens to a city and you get the choice of taking a loss or using an Adept with a certain kind of spell. So how long do you have to get the Adept to the city? Does she need to do something when she gets there? Will a Mage, Archmage, or Druid with the right spell also do the job? And what happens if you never get the Adept there?

IIRC, you only need the mana. In fact, if the cure for the event requires, say, life mana, and you have an adept with Life 1, a mage with Life 2, or even an archmage with Life 3, but have lost your Life Mana node... you're going to have to take a loss. Mana, not units, are what's needed for the events.
You can assume the "adept" is not one of your field adepts but a sucker dragged from the local school.

I can verify you only need the mana. (and *perhaps* knowledge of Ether)

I had it happen in a game where I had not yet built an adept at all and I was able to choose the appropriate "fix".

Not sure if that was the intent or not, but there you are.

I don't even think you need KotE. I had the Body event happen really early in a game (I'm 90% sure it was pre-KotE), and was fortunate enough to have been playing the Calabim.

And it looks as though you can only use the "Adept" option when you have the appropriate Mana. So what's the point? If you later acquire the Mana, is the penalty reversed?

No, sadly, its not. I find these events happen early in the game, before anyone even discovers KotE. It feels like I'm being penalised for choosing the wrong civ...

Now this is really irritating. I just got the one where the library catches on fire and me not having Water Mana, it burned down. However, it just so happens that I had an Adept with Water 1 already in the City, but that did not satisfy the requirement to "send an Adept with Water" to the city. (I bought her from the Guild.) The message really should be reworded.

I had goblins dump rubbish on turn 1, basically reducing food in my capital by 1 forever (they did it to the city square!) So I restarted the whole game. The area I was in in no way made it worthwhile putting up with that.

It might help alleviate confusion if the text didn't use the term of art "adept." I got one of these events before I, in fact, even had my first Adept unit, and was confused as to why I wasn't experiencing ill effects before building the right sort of Adept to handle the situation.

@ DrStalker: Remember this when you go to the rubbishbin next time. Who knows where its contents may end up... ;)
Maybe its time to get those goblins some eco-education for their warrens. Teach them how to reduce, reuse, recycle.
Or call Greenpeace...

Some of the new events are really funny. (Especially if they dont happen to you. :D :p)
