I'm a rookie at Civ IV. I have CIV IV Complete, and I amexcited to try playing using some of the Mods that so many of you have posted for dowloading. The only problem is, I have no idea how to. HELP!?!?

Welocme, Tuerckr! When you've installed a mod, after starting up the game, just select Advanced and then Load a Mod. Does that answer your question?

I think he is asking exactly how one goes about actually installing a mod.

When you install a mod, put it in the Mods section of the Civilization IV folder. For me (if I was installing a mod for Beyond the Sword), this would be: C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Civilization IV Gold*\Beyond the Sword\Mods. However, I do not have CIV Complete so I do not know how the installation folder is, but you could just go to :My Documents\My Games\Civilization IV\Mods. I hope this helps. :)

Also you can play mods that are designed for the ease of the user. Legend of Revolution (found in my sig) automatically installs and is easy to use. Same with Fall from Heaven.

Yet another gratuitous and shameless plug for probably the best mod available for d/l on this stupid forum!!!

Thanks to phungus420, I'm losing sleep, drinking too much coffee, and suffering from eyestrain and delusions from gazing at my monitor too long!

I'm ignoring the ones I love, and my social life is in ruins!

Oh, but it's worth it...

Must, sleep, sometime... (gasp)

:lol::lol::p

So if I download a single mod unit into the mod folder I will be use it in the vanilla BTS?

Normally, you d/l the mod and then unzip it into the standard install path for BTS. In the case of a normal retail version of BTS using XP, the path looks like this:

XPInstall.jpg

If you are using Vista, the path looks like this:

Vistainstall.jpg

In both cases, the mod goes into the MODS folder. Also, on Vista the Appdata folder is hidden. You will have to unhide it to be able to easily unzip the mod into it. See the individual folders under the mods folders in the examples? Those are individual installed mods.

Note that the install paths for D2D and Steam versions, and Civ Complete or the Gold edition are not the same. You're on your own there, sorry.

Some mods have an installer built into them, like Varietas Delectat, Rise of Mankind, and the previously mentioned, and excellent, Legends of Revolution. For those, it's a simple matter of running an install program.

Good luck. :)
