How do you access Multiplayer?

I don't see this option in the main menu of my Civ III. Does it need a special add-on or something? I'd like to go head to head with my friend over the net.

If you're playing 'Vanilla' (Regular) Civ3, then yes, you need an add-on. Play The World (PTW) or Conquests. You can find Conquests online pretty cheap. It includes all the content from PTW, so I wouldn't bother with getting PTW.

If you have PTW/Conquests, there will be a menu option "Multiplayer". You can access MP from there.

Thanks, how about hotseat games? do I need the same thing for that?

Yes, unfortunately.

You can do a 'succession' game, which was invented when Civ3 didn't have MP. Basically, you take X turns, turn it over to the next player, they take X turns, and send it on to the player after them. There's a forum for it here.
