I am aware of a few Civ 3 players, like myself, who are keen to play casual multiplayer games, either with the vanilla game or with a customised scenario/mods. For example, I stumbled across a couple of players looking to play the Age of Discovery scenario that came bundled with the game. I am looking to gauge if there'd be any wider interest in this that would make it worth attempting to set up and coordinate any sort of 'casual multiplayer game of the week'.

To clarify what I am talking about I am thinking of sessions where::

1) Game settings have got to be feasible to have a decent game with a likely resolution in a single 3 to 4hr session (so I guess 120 to 150 turns max). This would likely mean it is playable on Tiny and Small maps, although larger may be feasible if there is a clear turn limit and/or loads of water.

2) Game settings have to either be fully documented in an updated Civilopedia entries or be sufficiently simple to be grasped in a few bullet points.

3) (initially) probably stick to things that don't need any downloading. If this somehow got up and running then we could perhaps look at downloading stuff in advance of a session.

4) (initially) can have a feasible game with just 2 or 3 players so that a session doesn't get cancelled (other slots can be filled by the AI - so this means games/scenarios would ideally be limited to a maximum of 8 factions to match the maximum of 8 Civs in multiplayer)

Does anyone have an interest in such a thing?

Going off on a tangent a little

At present we have this forum. Obviously this sub-forum can also be used for general multiplayer matters (but is currently pretty inactive).

There is a Civ3 Single Player Discord that focusses on Play By EMail (PBEM).

We also have the civplayersciv3league discord group which focusses on competitive ladder games on customised multiplayer mods. (but does seem entirely open to members playing more casually and members can sign up to be notified of forthcoming casual games on standard Civ 3, experimental mods and versus AI games (none of which would be counted as 'competitive') The owner seems quite supportive of that sort of activity being advertised on their server).

Is there anywhere else in the wider Civ3 community that I am overlooking? At present PBEM and competitive play are well catered for but more casual multiplayer arguably isn't. However, initially at least, if this has any legs I'd just intend using the above three sites to advertise any forthcoming games and see if there is any interest in such a thing.
