How do you use the globe theater?

I see the point of it, but never find myself placing it in a city as it's a national wonder.

What city do you place it in?
Why?
What makes a good candidate for it?

In the game I just finished I used Globe Theater with Taj Mahal and Hermitage for my #1 great people and culture city. The happiness is nice, but I don't think that is as beneficial as having good luxuries and buildings for happiness. So I will use it for boosting the great artists and culture.

If you're going for a cultural win, put it in one of your three cities (obviously). Otherwise, put it in a large city that you aren't keeping space for national wonders in for science or unit production. Then that one won't have to worry about happiness while it grows.

It would probably be best in a Great Person Pump city, by eliminating the Happiness penalty, then you can use as population as your food can support (because enough excess food counteracts sickness). so with farms everywhere, a Globe City can easily reach 30-40 population without having to use the culture slider... also useful for countering war Weariness in one important city

Probably not what you were looking for, but if you play a One City Challenge game (in the custom game option), Globe Theater is perhaps the most important wonder you can get, as it will make every citizen in your single city happy :)

Don't have to worry about getting resources or constructing buildings for happiness (only health) after you get the Globe Theater.

Mine usually ends up in my first city, since it tends to be in a good location and one of the largest. It just means that's one city where I never have to worry about war weariness or other unhappiness.

Unless I'm going for a cultural victory I usually don't build the Globe at all. If you have a decent sized empire with good relations with an AI or two I find that happiness really isn't a problem anyway. I build markets and forges in all of my cities anyway and I can usually get my cities to max growth without the globe.

The only time I ever build it is when I'm stuck with a relatively small empire (5-8 cities). Then it helps to have one super city that can fill a gap in your empire. Aside from that I find the Globe one of the least useful wonders.

But if you are going for a culture victory, a theater is ultimately all you need to keep people happy. 80% culture = +8 happy from the theater. My cities routinely have around +30 happiness when I flip the culture switch. It's a little different if you flip the culture switch late (after Rock n Roll, Hollywood, Broadway, and broadcast towers). In that case, being able to grow one city earlier can be nice.

I think the Globe Theater is most useful for a great person city in a non-cultural victory game. You can get a ton of specialists out of a flood plains city if you have the happiness to keep tiles productive.

If you're playing an OOC how do you get the Globe? Considering you need 6 or more Theatres to allow you to build it.

In a OCC, you only need one theater to build the Globe Theater. Other requirements are relaxed in a OCC as well (such as the ability to build any number of national wonders in your city).

Too bad the cultural victory isn't relaxed to a single city (with perhaps 200-250% the culture requirement).. that would be nice.

Jeremy.

Very cool! Good info to know, this will entice me to try an OOC sometime then! I didn't try one previously because of just these restrictions...on other stuff like Wall Street, Cathedrals, etc...
