How exactly does Flank Attack promotion work?

Hi again,
I've always thought of flank attack as a way for certian units to "bombard" a stack of siege weapons, i.e, inflict damage on multiple units with one attack. Is this correct? Can somebody fill me in on some details?

thanks again!

The promotion merely gives withdraw chances, but those are incredibly helpful when used properly.

The ability, which operates independently of the promotion, inflicts "collateral" damage to siege and an even kill it.

The only way the two are related is that a mounted unit that attacks and survives deals the ability damage, and the promotion increases the chances an attacking unit will survive.

They should not have named both the ability and the promotion flanking, but they did, so there is some confusion.

OK, thanks. And yes, it was the fact that they both had the same name that was confusing me.

So can a mounted unit can Flank Attack siege weapons and kill multiple units in one attack? Or just damage a bunch of them (like city bombard).

Yes, you can kill siege units with flank attacks, often multiple with the same attack. Beware that you don't strand the last attacker alone on the enemy tile if you expected him to not move there because there were 2+ units left ;)
