How Few Remain Scenario's

I have Windows XP and MGE. I downloaded the How Few Remain zipfile into a new desktop folder and extracted the files into the same folder. There was no problem in starting the scen.

Perhaps a more detailed description of your computer, version of CivII and procedure might shed some light on your difficulty. ;)

That usually seems to work best. Download each scenario into it's own folder so that you have no worries about files overlapping with each other.

Sorry. I've the 'XP' system, and MGE Gold. Thanks for your comment, although not-quite-sure what you mean. I extracted the zipped game (the first scenario) into my 'Industrial' scenario's. Won't boot up. I've got, and enjoyed, the books, kind of like to check out the scenario's. So, if you feel up to helping this novice out a bit more with your writing... PLEASE... feel free to write to me like 'Boot up for Dummies' or something... :crazyeye:

Are your scenario folders within the Civ II Directory?

For example; I have this path name for my Scenario folder and then each scenario has it's own folder within that one:
C:\Games\MicroProse Software\Civilization II Multiplayer Gold Edition\SCENARIO

I'm not sure that scenarios need to be in the CivII directory.

My CivII MGE files are in C:\GAMES\GL\CIVII

while the scenario folders are in

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\DESKTOP\JA\GAMES DOWNLOADS

I usually play a game by moving a scenario folder to DESKTOP for quicker access but a game plays just as well if the folder remains in GAMES DOWNLOADS.

Is there any chance that the scenario requires one of the patches that have been developed for CivII MGE? I know I installed a couple, but it was so long ago that I can't remember what they were.

The problem with this scenario is that there is a unit
(IIRC "Balloon" at the end of the rules.txt file) which has
0 hit points. As soon as someone tries to use a 0 hit point
unit, the game crashes. The Roman Empire WWII scenario
has the same problem.

I don't recall these scenarios to be that well done, using all original units, bare minimum events and such. Maybe I'm thinking of a different set of scenarios?

I don't know why GJD is having trouble running the HFR scen but I don't think the problem is in rules. Firstly, if there were a problem in rules, everyone should be experiencing it. Secondly, there are no 0 hit point units in rules.

That said, I'm still no wiser as to why there is a problem.

The few units used in the scen are all original and seem to function perfectly. My wild guess would be that, as no one else has used this thread to report similar problems, there is something not quite right in GJD's main CIVII folder/directory. He does mention having problems with other scens.

All I can say is that I had a crash problem with that
scenario, and after lots of hair tearing found the 0 hit
point unit. When I changed it from 0 to 1 hit points,
the scenario worked. Also, the unit I found was not one
of the standard units, but one of the "extra" units that
are normally disabled.

Your point about everyone experiencing it is well taken.
Either they figured it out on their own, they simply
decided not to try to make it work, or I got a bad version.

@HTower - I think you're thinking of different scenarios.
This series has mostly custom units. IMO they're not
the greatest, but they're not too bad.

I had to update that How Few Remain scenario because Part 1 kept crashing. But I fixed it so it should work now.
