How is combat calculated?

Hi,
i have asked this in another thread before, but i think it might be a different discussion, so i will ask here again:

Is there any info on how combats are calculated?

Seeing that combat strength bonuses have been changed to absolute numbers, compared to CiVs percentage bonuses, the scaling on some UA and UU bonuses seems quite strange, e.g. america getting +5 CS on home continent , which seems like a lot early and almost nothing late.

Denkt has suggested, that combat outcome may be determined by the difference in strength between units (e.g. 100 vs 105 strength units has the same outcome as 5 vs 10 strength units because the difference in both cases would be 5), which would kind of make sense.

It does make sense for it to be based off on the difference in strength. In Civ 5 BNW, the weakest unit had about 5 combat strength (scout) and the strongest unit had 150 combat strength (giant death robot).

Meanwhile the strength range in civ 6 appears to range from 10 to 100. Considering warriors have 20 combat strength and riflemen appear to have around 60 strength or so - the ratio between units is considerably smaller.
It might be that a difference of 5 combat strength between units amounts to the superior unit dealing about 20% more damage than its opponent.

If we look at every battle, consider both units combat strengths, and see how damage is allocated, we'll soon figure out how it all works.

So will a spearman be able to occasionally take out a tank again or will there be an adjustment for the relative eras of the units? :spear:
