How is Rise Of Nation?

its borderline for me

but thats only because my computer is a junk and people move in frames.

Hi,I played the trial version for a long time, then finally curious what I was missing, bought the game.It was over 50$,which shocked me,I sent someone to get it and hadn't said don't buy if its over 30$.But I wouldn't of paid over that for it myself.I enjoy playing still, but 2 things suck. The 1st is the armegeddon(sp) thing with the nukes,2nd is the anti missle sheilds your enemies suddenly just obtain, and it really doesn't warn you when at war that they are protected all of a sudden.
I am a beginner at these 'type' games, starting with AOE-The Kings, got bored quick,so d/l the RON trial, and it held my interest fairly long so I bought it.I have no experiance with the map making,or scenero creating,or especially this Script Editing, totally clueless even what it does or how to do it.But in general it is a fairly good game,a big difference between it and Civ.,which I just had my brother put on my pc and am I don't get any of the gameplay yet after 20 some hours trying to play.Basically its like I am watching the game (with the whole tile movements) rather than playing it.
Sorry for so long a post but I'm a newbie at this, and female, which should explain it, so please overlook my babbling.;)

Yeah. Armaggeddon stinks. I wish there was an option to turn it off in a game. With Script Editor, I'm too lazy to figure it out. But I think you got ripped if you bought it for more than $50. I think no game is worth that much. Not even Civ. I have gotten pretty good at Easy. If I have an ally. With an ally, I win Easy all the time. The computer rarely attacks, so I can build a GIGANTIC army and burn their capital. Then the capital timer starts, half my army kicks the bucket, and then I win. But a lot of times I do wonder victory.

NOT EVEN CIV??????

and what happens at armegedon?

The manual says at armaggeddon, everyone dies and nobody wins.

it just seem like a "civilisation" game built on Age of Empire...
it seem lacking at certain point...

but the ability to see battleship going at it which destoryers protecting them from submarine attack.
everything seem so engaging. the rate of warfare is fast and fun!

I bought the game when it fiurst came out, mainly because I absolutely LOVED Alpha Centauri. And I played it a whole lot...for about two weeks. And then I dug out CivIII, and started playing it again, and I've played it maybe three times since.

Overall, it's ok, and I'm sure it rocks pretty well if you love the whole RTS thing. But I enjoy the long-term rewards of building up an empire city by city more. The combat is fast and furious, but almost too much so; there's too much going on at any given time.

In short, if you are into RTS games, if you enjoyed Age of Empires, you'll probably like it. I find it more enyable than AoE. But I enjoy it a lot less than CivIII.

I downloaded the trial version of Rise of Nations and I was disapoint I didn't like it that much, I thought AoE was MUCH better.

WHAT!!! that is blasphemy  away with you heretic we do not stand for such heresy, all hail CIV :worship:

you will be converted :borg: by force if need be :mwaha:

although now that I think about it your probably right

well, compated to a gem of strategy gaming such as Civ3 and even it's own predecessor Age of Empires, this game is so incredibly bad I cannot believe it

I bought a copy of this game when it got out with HUGE expectations, and found it to be little more than Age of Empires mixed with Civilization, but a lot less fun than either of those games.

Stay away from this game! It is DREADFUL!

I have to disagree with the above.

I have personally found it to be the deepest and most enjoyable RTS yet. If you like Warcraft or AOE and you like CIV, then this is probably a pretty good bet.

And to answer the original question - no this game is not BROKEN like MOO3 was on release.

Rise of Nations is quite a good game. If you liked age of empires for it's gameplay, you will love Rise of Nations. If you liked all the different types of units that you could use in Age of Empires, you will probably be dissapointed with Rise of Nations. Rise of Nations has three to five infantry units (That are upgraded through history, and one which is a scout), three types of cavalry (upgraded to tanks later on), one type of artillery, and one supply units. That is the entire military part. The good side with Rise of Nations is the new ideas that they have put in. A good example are the national borders. If you keep units in enemy teritory without a supply cart, they get continually damaged through attrition. You also have 5 completely different resources. You get wood at lumbercamps (Which work better than in AoE), you get food from farms (Only so and so many per city), iron from mines you build in mountains, money from trade and territory, knowledge from universities. All in all, if you liked AoE, you will LOVE RoE.
Also, the possibility to build your country to the modern age is great.

I've only seen the demo, and the screenshots. I can't run it though, since it won't work on my old video card. There's a website somewhere that lists the video cards that have problems with the game.

RoN, I think is one of the better RTS games to come out this year. I like it because you just don't sit there and wait for stuff to upgrade / build because you have to do a few other things, which that in itself makes the game much more enjoyable then many traditional RTS games where you sit there and wait for your building to be built.

I also like how for every 1 ground soldier type of unit you have 3 guys, it makes the game a little bit better because the battles are a little more larger scaled. The different cultures are also pretty well balenced which makes for a funner gaming experience.

So I personally think that RoN is a very good RTS game.

I love it, although i usually switch back to civIII after a while...
