I am not sure how is score kept.

The main categories are population , land, technologies.

Now how are points accumulated from land? Is it just the amount of terrtory or do other parameters affect it?

What about population? Is only the size relavant or parameters such as culture, wealth, production, happiness affect it?

What about tech? do you get extra points for discovering techs first? or is it just the amount of science your civ has done.

If you have any ideas please let me know.

I had more land, most of my people seemed happy, I was churning out wonders like crazy, and yet other civs had higher score than me (on noble)

Strange

similar stuff has happened to me. i am easily the most adnaced but the smallest civ with amazing happiness and culture but my score sucks. i win a culture victory anyways.

I don't understand the scoring, but I think that technologies and wonders go a long way. I was playing on Noble (Highland map) last night and pretty much level pegging with the lead AI with everyone else 100-200 points behind us. If she got an advantage in the points, it was when she founded new land and cities, but upon sacking 2 of these in a later war, her score did not [noticeably] drop.

She eventually pulled away from me, despite my emphasis on growth and founding new cities, when her technology lead became quite pronounced (I got sidetracked with wars, dammit), so I concluded that land, cities and population are part of it, but you see the biggest jumps from wonders and technology.

I've been playing a few HIGHLAND games and watching the score fairly closely, especially if it started to go against me (!). Thus far I'd say that TECHNOLOGY is very important and gives a big boost everytime. Land owned is important too, but think of this as cultural coverage, not just number of cities. I'm sure that there are other things, but - and this may be nothing - keeping your army uptodate I think is related also ... in previous games I let it get somewhat behind my tecnology level and found my score slipping regardless of what else happened. In my last game I upgraded my units constantly and I believe that this caused my army strength to increase and thus my score.

I attacked someone and they lost 3 cites but never lost any points.
