I've now started something about six games in a row, was near completing one though :D But still haven't managed to do it...sigh...anyways I was wondering how many games you have to restart before you get achieved one?

I believe that starting place is quite large factory on this one...

I rarely play to the finish. Either I get bored of it because it is too easy or I get too frustrated

Heh, I believe that is bad habit in cIV. I didn't have these problems at C3C. Altough I didn't find C3C being as interesting as cIV is.

I often don't play to the finish either - but it's usually because I'm in a pretty strong winning position and get bored. I rarely lose on Prince - even when I do finish games... maybe time to raise the difficulty level.

Yep... I've stepped it up to Noble - which I can win at fairly regularly - but not always.... (I know - "newbie".....)

I almost always play to the end - if there is any chance of winning. If all seems lost, why bother??

I can usually pull out a space race victory sometime in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Although I got really p*ssed a game or 3 back when I was about 2 turns from victory when mansa pulled out a diplo win!!

Still looking for some real thoughts on how to win a space race victory EARLY. I know what's required. It's just that I can't pull it off before about 1995 - which gets me to about "Ethlered the unready"...

I have the habit of restarting all the time too. Usually just because I find the game less interesting once everyones been discovered and all the borders are established. Wars require lots of tedium as well. Ive played lots more games through to the end since BtS. I like the flavor its added.

Okay, interesting notes here :) Rare people seem to play at the end. I'm those who doesn't play because they can't :D

I'm still back in....er....Chieften...gaining Space Race vics on the map it spawns. I think I either need to step it up, or learn another route to victory (maybe Domination or Conquest...)

I'm just the opposite. I'll usually continue to play a game where I'm losing, trying to catch up. It's the games where I'm so strong that victory is a sure thing that I'm likely to abandon.

On games where I'm far behind in the tech race, I just wait to be invaded and put out of my misery. Then when they do invade, I fight like hell! I'm not going quietly! But if, after a millenia, no one comes knocking, I'll start over and try to keep up again in the next game.

BTW: One time, as Napoleon, I was getting my butt kicked by my two neighbors and they crippled my research. I got a little impatient and declared war on the entire world! I went out in style!

The only games I've found that were fun are the ones in which you apply new tactics. The first one I applied the BW beeline resulted in me having half the continent by 0AD and a domination a millenia later!

I never restart and I've won all of my games. Maybe I've played on Noble for too long. But my recent Prince games were also victorious, though the AI was closer. I always play through to the end, I want to see the score.

Try this.... Build lots of military units. Axemen, for example. Do it EARLY and go on a rampage. When your opponents are weak with only a few cities. Raze most of them. Keep it only if it's really good. If they re-settle, just take it again. Be sure to protect your cities. An early war of agression might lead you to a domination victory. (At least it wil change your thinking. You CAN NOT be timid.

Can anyone explain how you kill off all of your opponets BEFORE a domination vicory??

Try the current game of the month. Always war. Not fun, in my opinion. I was trying a practice game at a lower level with similar parameters. Eventually, wave, after wave, after wave of MULTIPLE opponents comes tromping through my area, killing off my preatorians. (Due to MULTIPLE attacks and some lucky dice rolls.) I give up.

Also, when I'm in third place on points, close to another space race victory, why bother?? If I'm lucky, I pull it out. Sometimes, they can pull it out a year or three ahead of you. OR, like a recent game, Mansa earns a diplo victory a YEAR before I'm done the space race. So, if I'm in a similar situation, I will not finish. Been there, done that.

BUT, my current game is not a "give up". I'm WAY behind in points. Somewhere just past about 500 AD. Monty attacked me and I am merrily killing him off. Then, Mansa declares on me and sends one small stack in. A couple of weeks ago, I might have made nice with Monty and went after Mansa. Today, I'm building up my preatorians in the north (to protect against another incursion), while my army in the south goes after Monty. Once I kill off Monty, I'll redirect all the hoards toward Mansa.

Here I'm trying to learn about playing a little more agressive game. This is fun.
