How Random, is Random?

I'm not sure if its a vanilla thing with the game since I never played vanilla having got Warlords and Vanilla at the same time just a few months ago. Normally when playing a game if I did a fight, reloaded the game I'd have different outcomes. Even if the same unit died the damage dealt might not be the same and entire battles at a city go really differently.

However since I've been playing FfH I've noticed something about the random factor that seems to indicate all possible attacks in a turn are determined before my turn even begins. Say my Barnaxus has an 93% chance of victory so I'm fine with letting him attack and say...he dies. Well its a single player game so like most of us I'll just reload the game. Now 93% with a RNG says that its probably a fluke and if I attacked again I'd win...but I lose...with the defender at the same amount of remaining HP he had the first time...and this repeats itself every time without any variation in results no matter how many attempts I make at it.

Is this a FfH mechanic issue or was it a vanilla issue? Since I don't have BtS I haven't tried the changes made updating it to BtS but its really annoying lacking any sort of actual randomness in my attacks, which, for some odd reason seem to fail the closer to 100% they are. >_>

I think the random seed is set before a battle or other random event actually takes place, and you keep this random seed when saving and reloading.

If you want to be able to save and reload to change the course of a battle, check the "new random seed on reload" option on the custom game screen.

Also, waiting a turn before you attack will change the seed. I typically move the unit to another square then attack the following turn. Setting the random seed game option is a far better solution, but if you forget to set it...
