I don't know if the game was in vanilla or C3C, so I'll assume it was in C3C.

The discussion was very confusing and what I got from it was that most of the team members wrongly assumed that the FP worked in C3C the same way it does in vanilla.Either graham here is mistaken and is using vanilla logic, or by "2 effective cores" he means "one mishapen effective core", which would exist no matter where the FP was built.
It was in C3C and grahamian was not wrong. By careful city arrangement you can get two cores in C3C - and they proved it.

I think it's a matter of terminology. In vanilla/PTW, you could have 2 cores, with corrupt cities between them. In CSC, you can't.

Actually, that layout isn't that much different than normal - it's just that they don't use a bunch of tiles in the mountains. It's an FP in the 4th rank.

However, if there was more room around the capitol, my guess is that they would have built like that.

Of course. WOA has already said that. And they were careful not to build cities between the two cores because rank corruption would destroy the second one.

Actually I think that WOA's map on this thread is a poor example of optimal FP placement. The best choice would be city 15. However, city 6 is much more productive so, in order to get it up in a reasonable timeframe, he chose that instead.

In this example I started the FP early, but is this too close? It's in a strong location with grassland, river and hill- but its only five tiles form the capitol.

Should it be further to the south? Delgado? Would build much slower there, just grassland , forest and one hill.

That is the direction I want to expand towards . Rome, to the south, has two luxuries and more territory than Egypt - so I plan to expand towards them and conquer when I run out of expansion room.

I usually play a world map, and generally try to start on North America.

When to Build: I generally tend to build my Forbidden City closer towards the Middle Ages or even the Industrial Age.

Where to Build: Because it acts as a second capitol, I usually build on a new continent. When I start on N. America I try to build it more in SE Europe or NE Africa, sometimes in the Middle East.

Thats why it was a good example to show the difference between hand build and leader rush.
