I'm running away with my game, far, far ahead of the AI in science, yet in the year 2000, I'm fearful I'm going to run out of time. Regardless, it takes FOREVER. The best production city I could find took me 62 turns to build the spaceport. Now, I'm being told it will take me another 32 to launch the satellite. Presumably after that I have to colonize Mars. I figure the game will have ended by then. If these steps have to be chronological and can't be done simultaneously, then I don't see how it's possible. What am I missing?

Erh... I can usually go between 150 and 200 production before modifiers when doing these. Simple formula :
Build these in a central city with quite a good amount of mined hills.
Build industrial districts in every city and make sure you have as much as possible 6 tiles from your space project city. Factories and plants in them will help that city
Build commercial cities and put everyroute in that city (as origin) (or cities if you have multiple space projects) so that each route give a prod bonus to your city.
Use the great people bonuses for space project.

I've got no mined hills. That must be the problem. I'm playing as Egypt and it's all floodplains, marsh, and grasslands.
